What Is an Indicator in Chemistry?

What Is an Indicator in Chemistry? What is an indicator in chemistry? Well, for anyone who is unfamiliar with the term an indicator, it is a person who is monitoring the progress of your individual chemical reaction. For those of you who have never heard the term, an indicator was something that gave information to a person about some time ago. In fact, they were some of the first used in modern times as a substitute for modern scientists because these people were interested in the progress of their chemical reactions. The modern day use of an indicator is when someone makes a statement that in some way is related to a chemical reaction. This could be referring to the function of chemicals, how a chemical reaction will evolve, or simply they are saying they have information on some chemicals. They provide information so that individuals can make educated decisions about what they do with their information. An indicator can be one that alerts you to something that is occurring within a ch emical reaction. An indicator could be the liquid that you have for example. If you have a chemical that has dissolved and you add water and the chemical dissolves, that could mean that the chemical is reacting. It could also mean that something has been dropped onto the surface of the reaction that is occurring. An indicator is not limited to anything that shows the temperature of something. Even things such as the pH of something can be an indicator. For those of you who have a good knowledge of chemistry, then this is something that you may have heard of before. However, for many of us, knowing how it is used in modern times can help us to appreciate its importance. It is not often that people are aware of how much their reaction with something can affect our lives. There are actually more than two types of indicators. In fact, there are even examples of natural chemicals that are indicators as well. The examples of natural indicators are the movement of water in a system, the movem ent of earthworms, the movement of moths and the movement of starlings. If you would like to learn more about an indicator in chemistry, you should check out the links below. You can find a wealth of information and you can ask questions and get answers. The links below should also give you more information on how to determine whether or not an indicator is real or not.

Keep Social and Study Time Separate in College this Fall

Keep Social and Study Time Separate in College this Fall Irvine College Tutoring Tips: 5 Ways to Keep Social and Study Time Separate in College this Fall Some students will be attending their local state university with several of their friends from high school. Although this can make adjusting to the social situation of college life easier, its important to separate friendship from academic activities. Additionally, students who travel out of state will probably make fast friends with classmates they have something in common with. In this case, its also important to think about the importance of education and how to make it a priority without losing valuable social connections. One of the best ways to do this is just to keep socialization and study time separate but, of course, this is easier said than done start the year off right with the help of private Irvine college tutoring from TutorNerds. 1. Group projects Group projects can be difficult because they usually include working with people with varying abilities and motivation and can be somewhat stressful. For the most part, its best to avoid working with good friends during a group project. If somebody isnt holding up their end of the assignment, it can be easy just to let it slide because they’re a friend. However, this can result in a lower grade overall. Additionally, professors often grade group projects in part on how well people can get along. The professor wants to see that students can get along with anybody in the class, not just their good friends. 2. The living situation Dorm life is separate from academics, so there isnt any problem rooming with friends. This is a chance for students to be able to enjoy the social aspect of college and get a little bit of rest and relaxation. However, if students need to study, they may become distracted by their friends, so its good to have a separate place to study solo when the dorm gets too crowded. Libraries are open most of the day and most student living facilities have at least one common room where students can go to work on assignments (READ: 4 Signs Its Time to Study Solo). 3. Choosing classes In high school, many people choose their elective classes based on whatever their best friends are taking. In college, this can land people in a bad situation. Its critical for students to take electives they think will help them prepare for their career or explore potential major fields of study. If none of a students friends are going to be in their class, they’re encouraged to look at it as an opportunity to meet new friends and social network with people in their field. 4. Multiple study groups Study groups are a great help when it comes to getting tough university level assignments completed. Theres no reason why students cant be members of multiple study groups. Perhaps they study with a few super smart classmates so they can ace their chemistry midterm and then meet up with some good friends and work on separate assignments at the student coffee shop. At the end of the day, its important to study with motivated and successful peers, whether or not they happen to be good friends (READ: 4 Tips to Survive Your Final Exam Study Group). 5. Time away from campus If new college students start to feel like theyre putting a ton of effort towards academics and dont have any friends in their classes, its important they set aside some time away from campus to socialize. Although the primary purpose of college is to learn and prepare for a career, its also important to just sit back and relax once in awhile. Students can get together with friends and grab a bite to eat on Friday evening or go to the beach on Sunday afternoon. Spending a little bit of time off campus can help give students perspective and allow them to have a well balanced overall college experience. Irvine private college tutoring will help you stay ahead of your classes and score high on your midterms and finals. Here at TutorNerds, we work around your busy schedule. Does Duolingo Work Lets See What Duo the Owl Has to Offer

Does Duolingo Work Lets See What Duo the Owl Has to Offer Does Duolingo Work? Lets See What Duo the Owl Has to Offer Inside every language learner, theres an adventurer on a quest to find the Holy Grail.Im not talking about medieval knights or mystical, elusive drinkware.Im talking about effective methods that help us learn a language; the one platform that will change everything. There are plenty out there. From the one that took its name from a stone inscribed with three languages to another inspired by the biblical Tower of Babel, language learners have the opportunity to try many different methods to achieve this goal.Oh and what about the one with the cute, green owl?Yes, you know what Im talking about.Duolingo!*Pause*I know what youre thinking: Great, another platform review. But bear with me adventurer.  This isnt a review. Its an examination to see whether the Duolingo method is actually effective in helping language learners like you.In other words, is it the Holy Grail hiding in plain sight?Lets take a closer look. What Is an Effective Language Learning Method? Before we rush into the questi on of whether or not Duolingo can help you learn a language, we first have to ask: What is an effective language learning method?By definition, it should be anything that allows you to reach a certain level of proficiency and confidence in a languageâ€"for your needs alone.Although were still in the land of the vague, theres a good reason for it.The reason is language learners are different in their learning styles and needs. Tony from Sydney might be an auditory learner, while Stacy from New York might prefer to lace her studying with a kinesthetic kick! Then comes the big why.Why are you learning a language? Are you studying in college, or preparing for a trip abroad? When we ask these kinds of questions, proficiency becomes relative and, therefore, what makes a language learning method effective rather relative as well.Just something to keep in mind. What Is the Duolingo Method?Duolingo is a platform that offers  free and premium membership in a variety of language courses. In a nuts hell, the method works by completing multiple lessons within a language tree, while developing knowledge and language  skills along the way.It tests learners abilities in speaking, listening, reading and writing, placing a strong focus on goal-setting, spaced-repetition and rewards.Due to the gamified nature of Duolingo, a visual style of learning is integral to the method and the experience.Does Duolingo Work? Lets See What Duo the Owl Has to OfferYes, Duolingo Worksâ€"I Totally Dreamt in Klingon Last Night.Mastery of the four elementsDuolingo isnt unique (but its still pretty special) in the way it covers the four essential skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.Because this combination is traditionally considered essential for basic proficiency, the platform can be beneficial for those who want to develop their skills in a more balanced way.Motivation is half the battleTheres nothing like language learning to knock the wind out of your sails. Worse still, it can be ch allenging knowing where to begin each day and what your objectives are.Duolingos method of structuring the lessons into bite-sized chunks, allowing you to set goals and be rewarded, is extremely effective for those struggling with accountability. If half of the process of language learning is simply showing up and being consistent, then Duolingo can help you to learn a language. All of the platforms features place importance on helping learners move forward, and so its, in this sense, a highly effective method.Check out my new syntaxOne of the underrated features of the Duolingo method is that from the very beginning, learners are introduced to sentence structure with an accompanying translation. This might not seem the most interesting or shiny thing, but in terms of language acquisition, its extremely important. Being able to see, block by block the way sentences are formed, and the way grammatical units relate to each other shows learners how to express meaning early on.What you mak e of itIn examining whether or not Duolingo works, its important to keep in mind that any platform or resource is partially what the learner makes of it.What this means is that if you try to whizz through the lessons faster than the speed of light, dont go back to review and dont make full use of the options availableâ€"then, well, youre not going to learn a language on Duolingo. This means taking advantage of things like Duolingos stories and the forums where learners can offer and receive advice about anything theyre struggling with, from grammar points to cultural references.Noâ€"My High Valyrian Leaves Much to Be Desired.Artificial intelligenceBy its very nature, the Duolingo platform is a controlled, artificial environment that programs learners with its own version of that language.Going out into the real world can be a very different experience.Learners may realize that there are actually 10 different ways to say the one phrase they learned on the platform and that they cant c ontrol the discourse as neatly when speaking. In this way, the Duolingo method isnt as effective  as a method to learn a language or at least the real, authentic version. For help with this, you can listen to authentic content in the form of real-world videos with subtitles through FluentU. In this way, youll learn all the different ways the language expresses itself in a natural environment.FluentU is designed to get you comfortable with everyday language, by combining all the benefits of complete immersion and native-level conversation with easy-to-read subtitles and supplementary resources such as quizzes and flashcards. Not all languages are created equallySince Duolingos courses are created by different individuals and that availability of resources varies, the Duolingo method might not be effective for the language youre learning.Different languages require different approaches, and since Duolingo applies the same methodology to all of them (with different levels of consistency i n terms of content), you might not be studying your chosen language in the most efficient way.Vocabulary varietyEven though theres a fair amount of vocabulary covered on the platform, its not diverse or challenging enough to learn a substantial amount of the lexicon.Due to the repetition of more basic words, if learners put all their faith in the platform, theres still going to be a gap in their knowledge. Vocabulary constitutes a large slice of the language learning pie.The Duolingo method, which doesnt prioritize vocabulary variety, could present problems for comprehension when striving for proficiency. And now, the end is nearEven if the Duolingo method is effective, like all things, theres an end.Although theres no consensus about which level language learners reach upon completing a tree, based on the materials alone, its certainly not going to take you to an advanced level. So while the Duolingo method may be effective in learning a language to an intermediate stage, theres a po int at which the method disappears, and learners need to find a new one.So, does Duolingo work? After examining the effectiveness of Duolingos method to learn a language, the answer isnt straightforward. Its not the Holy Grail, that much is certain. But like all language learning resources, its simply one useful tool in a sea of many to help you on the road to proficiency.Whatever this means for you.Sophie McDonald is a freelance content writer with a burning passion for writing and languages. The Biology of Belief - 3 Reasons to Understand the Biology of Belief

The Biology of Belief - 3 Reasons to Understand the Biology of BeliefUnderstanding the biology of belief is imperative to one's success in life. The success you desire is all around you, however, because it isn't manifest in your life, you continue to struggle. Without a boost in knowledge about the biology of belief, you will continue to struggle. Here are three reasons why you should understand the biology of belief.Successful relationships and achievements are a result of both internal and external influences. People want to have what you have because you inspire them to do the same. However, having what you need doesn't mean you can continue to struggle with it.When you understand how the biology of belief works, you will know what to do with it, when to use it, and how to develop your skills in achieving successful relationships and achievements. In this short article, I'll highlight some of the aspects of the biology of belief that you need to be aware of.If you want to become an achiever, you need to focus on improving your mental state. Your brain operates in a two-part process. It is composed of a 'green' part and a 'red' part. The green part of your brain is responsible for what you perceive as reality. When you think you are rich, when you believe you are fat, when you see yourself as tall, when you see yourself as young, etc., the green part of your brain is connected to this belief. You may want to know what is causing this thought process, but the only way to find out is to understand what is creating the belief. Once you know, you can change the mind-set.The red part of your brain is responsible for your habits. This is the part that holds the beliefs that you incorporate into your mental state. Learning how to change the habits of your mind allows you to create more powerful habits and reinforce positive behaviors that are conducive to your success. Once you understand the role of the green and red parts of your brain, you can unlearn or modify w hat you have learned and choose new habits that are beneficial to your success.Your successes are a result of your positive beliefs. You can build your mindset to create these powerful beliefs that will give you the passion and drive to achieve your goals.

Book Musicals

Book Musicals Have You Ever Seen a Book Musical? ChaptersMusicals that Started as NovelsWhat Is a Book Musical, Exactly? The Most Popular Book MusicalsWe’re not talking a Disney Fantasia-esque tale wherein books, as the brooms in that film, take on a life of their own, flapping about the stage, unbidden.Like the aforementioned brooms, such a phenomenon would be rather frightening, don’t you think?A book musical is a type of musical theatre with specific criteria â€" how many songs and how they are woven into the story; when the musical elements are introduced, and so on.Don’t fret, we’ll go into more detail in the meat of the topic; this is just the introduction! Many people assume that a book musical is a stage show that includes music, whose inspiration or, indeed, the whole story is lifted from a previously published book.In some cases, that is exactly how a musical comes to be: somebody reads a great book, visualises soaring vocals and lively dance steps and, next thing you know, Broadway’s next big show is going on tou r!Or West End’s next big show… UK composers have turned out more than a few internationally renown musicals, too.Although such a scenario involves books and musicals, the shows that come about that way are not all book musicals. In fact, let’s start the discussion off by going over a few books that became musicals. Later, we’ll divulge the criteria that make for a book musical.Time to get your literary thinking caps on! Printed stories came much later.Daniel Defoe gave us Moll Flanders and Robinson Crusoe in the early 18th Century.By the time those works were published, opera had been a form of entertainment in Italy for more than 100 years and was working its way across Europe. The French writer Molière was instrumental in the evolution of musical theatre. He envisioned his more farcical tales as stage shows and, teaming up with musician Jean-Baptiste Lully, produced a string of musical comedies. Those shows had a great influence on the short season of English opera and they illustrate our point: back then and today, the inspiration for a hit musical could come from anywhere. For instance, the Tony Awar d-winning Rent draws directly on Puccini’s La Bohème for inspiration; it even parallels some of the older opera’s storylines. It’s natural for playwrights to draw on past literary work, perhaps updating the story to reflect modern times.Among popular musicals that started as books are:My Fair Lady, from George Bernard Shaw’s PygmalionThe King and I, from Margaret Landon’s Anna and the King of SiamThe Sound of Music from The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta von TrappLes Misérables by Victor HugoMary Poppins by P.L.TraversEvita, from the book Evita: The Woman with the Whip by Mary MainCharlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald DahlThe Phantom of the Opera by Gaston LerouxAndrew Lloyd Webber, a prolific composer of musical scores for stage and screen often draws inspiration from literature. Besides The Phantom, he has brought Cats to life (based on a book by T.S. Elliot) and Jesus Christ Superstar, based on the Gospels. All of these stories were firmly estab lished as books before they were made into shows; other types of books can also serve as inspiration for a Broadway musical. Think Hamilton, inspired by a biography of that American president. In summary: many books have been turned into musicals, but not every musical is a book musical… which begs the question: how many different types of musicals are there? What Is a Book Musical, Exactly? So far, we’ve established that books become musicals and we’re still intrigued by the idea that musicals have books.By that, we don’t mean that of musicals are written and, from those productions, a book is compiled even though that is sometimes the case.As an example: Mamma Mia, How Can I Resist You?, by Judy Cramer, tells the story of how ABBA’s songs came to be one of the most successful musicals to ever hit the stage.A book musical is different than that, even.Book musicals have three distinct components and certain characteristics to define them. We’ll start by exploring them and we challenge you to mentally review the musicals you’ve seen to determine if they are book musicals or a different type of musical. For a theatre company, working from a book provides several advantages Image by WikimediaImages from PixabayCharacteristicsMost musicals start out with the same three components: music, lyrics and a script. However, a book musical follows an orderly progression from beginning to end… unlike concept musicals, which presents its story in fragments relevant to the theme or moral of the story. The script details the performers’ lines and stage directions; it may also include song lyrics. Scripts may contain notes about character development and perhaps a bit of backstory so that the performers can get some ideas about how best to play their role.As opposed to other types of musicals, the songs in a book musical are integral to the story. They may be sung to heighten the dramatic intensity of the situation, to a romantic partner as a way to convey deep emotion or as a duet â€" One Hand, One Heart in West Side Story comes to mind as a great example of such.Song lyrics help to advance the story rather than give a break from it.Such songs contrast with those from musicals like Cher Show, an American musical that details the life and songs of that remarkable performer. Needless to say, the score for that show incorporates her many hit songs rather than new songs written specifically for the show. Now, let’s look closer at each of the facets all book musicals have in common. The LibrettoIn Italian, ‘libretto’ means ‘little book’.Usually, when the script includes the show’s song lyrics, it is referred to as a libretto. Many theatrical branches use librettos: operas and operettas; cantatas and oratorio. Librettos even feature in religious practices such as requiems.Productions tend to run more smoothly from a libretto because they include stage directions. And, because the songs are integral to the story â€" indeed, they form a part of the story, it helps the performers get a sense of continuity when lyrics are included within the dialogue. In a book musical, mos t (if not all) the characters are all introduced and the plot is laid out in the first act.The first act usually runs longer than the second and, generally, the complication or conflict â€" the crux of the story, will be revealed just before intermission. Also, learn to distinguish the characteristics of musical revues…The MusicMusic and lyrics together are called the score.A score may include music played softly during characters’ conversational interludes as well as background music for action scenes, if any. It may even include orchestrations to be played during the intermission. It is quite common for one person to write the music and another the lyrics; Gilbert and Sullivan were just such a writing team. The former wrote the libretti while the latter composed the music.Across the pond, Rodgers and Hammerstein were an equally prolific creative team; Richard Rodgers composed the music and Oscar Hammerstein wrote lines and lyrics. While collaborations are common in musical theate r, some composers write their shows’ music and lyrics alone. An excellent, modern-day example of such is Lin-Manuel Miranda, author/composer of Hamilton. In a book musical, most of the songs are sung in the first act and reprised in the second, sometimes with different lyrics. These second-act tunes may be sung at a different tempo, by a chorus rather than the character who sang it first; they may even have different lyrics while the music remains the same. Occasionally, a new song and dance may be added.Do you know of a rock musical that had music written especially for the show? The LyricsGive ‘em the ole razzle-dazzle… Billy Flynn, ChicagoIn some musicals, songs are meant as an aside to the audience, giving us a peek into the characters’ thoughts or motivations. By contrast, song lyrics in book musicals have a direct import on the story itself.Edelweiss, poignantly sung by the von Trapp family just before leaving Austria forever is the perfect case in point.Their audience in cludes Nazi officials, the very regime Captain von Trapp reviles, which he effectively demonstrates when he joins his son in singing about the pure, white flower that will forever symbolise his beloved Austria. So effective was this ballad that many fans of The Sound of Music believed it was Austria’s national anthem â€" or, at least a traditional folk song when, in fact, it was written by American lyricist Oscar Hammerstein, who had no ties to Austria.Find out how film musicals brought this type of entertainment to the masses… Many Broadway productions are based on classic tales published centuries ago Image by Dariusz Sankowski from PixabayThe Most Popular Book MusicalsDoes all of this leave you scratching your head, wondering which Broadway musicals â€" or any show put on in any theatre in New York or London are actually book musicals? You might argue that every musical is a book musical; don’t they all have to have a script? To an extent, you are correct but, today, a new musical tends to eschew books altogether; sometimes, actors’ lines are sung or rapped rather than recited. In that sense, musical theatre is edging ever closer to opera. That is why classic titles are generally considered true book musicals. Among the best musical fare to play on Broadway are:Guys and Dolls: book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows; score by Frank LoesserOklahoma!: book by Oscar Hammerstein; score by Richard RodgersFiddler on the Roof: book by Joseph Stein, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, music by Jerry BockWest Side Story: boo k by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen SondheimShowboat: book by Oscar Hammerstein, music by Jerome KernAnother point to keep in mind: many Broadway shows can be classified in several different ways. For instance, a jukebox musical such as Mamma Mia may also be considered a musical comedy. The musical Beauty and the Beast, adapted from the Disney movie, could be considered a book musical although its genesis was the musical film. The question is: do you need to know whether the Broadway production you want to buy tickets for is a book musical or a concept musical?Probably not, but understanding how such productions are classified helps you to understand musical theatre as a whole: past, present and future.Go ahead and enjoy all of the revivals and new performances you want!
